Who We Are

Co-operative Living In Toronto's Junction Triangle

The members of Perth Avenue Housing Co-operative cordially welcome you to our home. We're proud to be a part of a warm and vibrant community in a wonderful neighbourhood. At Perth Co-op, we take pride in being a friendly and supportive place to live. We're a diverse and open group of neighbours and our home is truly where our hearts are. We all work together and have a lot of fun making Perth a great place to live!

Perth Co-op is a community that welcomes families, single individuals, physically challenged and senior citizens. We also celebrate a membership that is made up of folks from many cultures, heritages, beliefs and backgrounds; we truly reflect the diversity of Toronto, one of the world's most cosmopolitan cities. We offer members a variety of amenities, including a community room, a library, and a playground. The cooperative also hosts a number of social events throughout the year, such as potlucks, movie nights, and holiday parties.

Our History

In 1984, a group of women banded together to form a housing co-operative under Section 56.1 of the National Housing Act (NHA).

Perth Avenue Co-op was founded in 1984 by a group of people who were interested in living in a cooperative housing community; they decided to form a housing co-operative under Section 56.1 of the National Housing Act (NHA). They were looking for a site close to public transportation, schools, parks, shopping and social services. By the end of the year they had chosen a site near Bloor Street West and Dundas Street West. In November 1986, Perth Co-op was completed and ready for people to move in; by early 1987 it had become fully occupied. On September 19, 1987, the official opening ceremony was held.

The Perth Avenue Cooperative is an eight story, 102 unit housing cooperative located in the Junction Triangle neighborhood of Toronto near Dundas West Subway Station, a fully accessible station that is also a bus and streetcar terminal. To add to the transit convenience, we are also located beside the Bloor Street Go Train Station/UP Express (Union Pearson Express) Bloor Station.

In the fall of 2025, we will proudly be celebrating our 40th anniversary!

Special 40th Anniversary logo for Perth Cooperative Inc. The words on the logo is "working together to build a strong community." The image has a tree, the Perth building and a heads of people are on top of the building. The heads represent all the members who can potentially be found living at Perth, symbolizes that it's a diverse and all inclusive community.

Our Values

The Perth community places a high value on community spirit and involvement. Specifically, we work hard to cultivate kindness, respect, contribution, equality, solidarity, caring for others and harmony. We strive to be a welcoming place where all members have the right to live with dignity, free from harassment and discrimination. We have been a member of the Canadian Housing Federation of Toronto (CHFT) since its opening as well as maintaining involvement in the Bloor-Junction Neighbourhood Coalition. These organizations uphold the following ideals for all Canadian Co-ops:

• Mutual self-help: Co-operatives are based on the idea that people can help each other.
• Democratic control: Co-operatives are democratic organizations where members are involved in decision-making.
• Equality: Co-operatives promote equality and equity.
• Solidarity: Co-operatives are based on the idea of solidarity.
• Honesty, openness, and caring for others: Co-op members support these ethical values.
• Fair price: Co-operatives are committed to providing good quality service at a fair price.
• Concern for the community: Co-operatives are good citizens in the community and try to create housing for future generations.
• Kindness: Co-operatives are exhibiting acts of empathy, compassion, and consideration
• Respect: Co-operatives are acknowledging the value and dignity of every individual, fostering a positive and inclusive environment.

Living Harmoniously With Others

Living harmoniously in a housing cooperative requires mutual respect, effective communication, and shared responsibility. Members contribute to decision-making, collaborate openly, and resolve conflicts peacefully. By emphasizing common goals and practicing empathy, everyone benefits from a supportive and cooperative environment.
